Worried about your health and yet barely able to keep up with your daily tasks? Energy is low, and sleep is elusive some nights. These extra ten or twenty pounds seemed to come out of nowhere, and are slowing you down. When you look in the mirror, do you wonder “Who is this person?”

The extra weight and fatigue are catching up to you, and it seems like you can’t keep up the way you used to: caring for the family members, cooking healthy meals, on top of your game at work. It’s too much for one person, especially when you don’t even feel like yourself anymore. There’s too much to do in one day and no end in sight. With your health declining and your weight and blood sugar going up, it might feel like there’s no hope for change.

Samantha was in the same situation not long ago. She is a social worker, committed to helping others at work, and also at home. As a middle-aged wife and daughter, she is the primary cook at home and also helps care for her mother who cannot walk or drive due to diabetic neuropathy. Her days are filled with client meetings, errands, caring for her home and also her mother’s. Eating out more often led to unwanted weight gain – a total of 20 pounds in the last 2 years. Two years ago, her mother’s diabetes was out of control. Her eyesight was fading and her kidneys were failing. Samantha had watched her mom lose her independence, being unable to drive due to the neuropathy in her legs.  Eventually she was forced to start kidney dialysis three times per week, so she assumed the duties of driving her mom to dialysis.

Watching her mother’s decline due to years of living with diabetes, Samantha knew she needed to do everything in her power from going down the same path.

But how? She too was tired.

She too had gained weight and watched her blood sugar slowly tick upwards each year at her wellness exams. With so many responsibilities on her plate, how could she find the time to figure out how to eat more healthfully? How would she have time to cook anyway? Plus she had no energy to squeeze in another task in her day. Samantha enjoyed exercise in the past, but now found it a chore, since she only got to the gym a couple times per month. What used to bring her energy and joy was now just another chore.

Although she did not know where to begin, she determined that she did NOT want to go down the same path as her mom.

She realized that she COULD NOT GO ON LIKE THIS. SHE WANTED A LIFE THAT WAS FULL OF ENERGY,  ENOUGH TO SPEND TIME WITH HER PARENTS AND HUSBAND.

She wanted to feel like herself again. Successful at work with energy to spare when she gets home – to take a sunset hike with her husband, to tend her garden on the weekends, to savor fresh food made in her own kitchen, just like her grandmother did when she was a child. She knew that the long-term results of taking care of herself now would include an independent future when she retired, energy to enjoy getting outdoors again, a lighter weight, pain-free legs, a healthy heart, and good vision well into her senior years.

She also knew she needs some guidance. She wasn’t a doctor. She wasn’t a nutritionist. But she needed help taking those first steps towards better health.

Are you at a similar crossroads?

What if you had the knowledge to set yourself on the same path towards feeling like yourself again? Keeping a healthy weight, experiencing joy and daily motivation again, having enough energy not only to work productively but also enjoy your family and home life?

Would you grab a hold of the opportunity?

Samantha and I created a meal and exercise plan each week so she didn’t have to wonder each day what to eat, where to eat, how to cook, how much to eat or when to exercise.

She didn’t have to wonder if she was going to be successful. She didn’t have to squeeze her plan in amongst her other duties; it was already built in.

She ate real food, enjoyed her favorite active past times again and quickly began feeling better. Her energy caught up to her motivation as she dropped inches and blood sugar points at regular intervals.

The accountability of staying on track was actually fun because she could see her progress right before her eyes!
